Step 1
Bring your photo identification with you onto the cruise line, and keep it with you while you're visiting different restaurants and bars onboard. The Norwegian Cruise Line staff will check IDs before serving alcohol to guests who look like they may be underage.
-
Step 2
Know the rules governing the usage of alcohol while at sea. Since it is not technically governed by American law, Norwegian Cruise Lines puts their own rules in place concerning drinking. Individuals between 18 and 20 can drink as long as they have a guardian's consent.
-
Step 3
Remember that the ship must be at least three miles outside of United States territorial waters in order to serve alcohol to minors with a consenting parent. While in the boundaries, all cruise lines must follow U.S. law in not serving alcohol to a minor, with or without a consenting guardian or parent.
-
Step 4
Understand that those on Hawaiian or Alaskan itineraries must be of the legal age to drink, with or without a guardian's consent; Norwegian Cruise Lines is bound by the laws of those states, and the ship stays in territorial waters the entire length of the cruise.
-
Step 5
Visit the reception desk to obtain permission with a guardian or with your photo identification so that you are cleared to use alcohol for the rest of the cruise without continually getting permission.
-
Step 6
Enjoy your alcohol responsibly. Norwegian Cruise Lines can refuse to serve anyone who is too intoxicated, or who engages in inappropriate behavior while intoxicated. Keep your usage to designated areas, like the pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants, or on the deck where appropriate.
