Many rely on the TV remote for its accessibility, for we no longer have to walk to the television to change the channel. There are many things that can be done with the TV remote, such as play DVDs or VHS tapes, and change the resolution of the screen.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn the television on by pressing the red button labeled "On." This button is usually on the left hand corner but it can vary by model.

  2. Step 2

Change the channel by pressing the desired number. There is an arrow button on most remotes that allows you to move up and down the channel sequence more quickly..

  3. Step 3

If you have a universal remote (one that can be used with any television or DVD player) press the DVD button to play movies. If you only have a regular remote for the television, you can use your DVD player remote to play movies.

  4. Step 4

Change the settings of the television by pressing "Menu." When you are on "Menu" you have the ability to make the television resolution sharper, set the timer, put the television into sleep mode, and set parental controls.

  5. Step 5

Use the volume button to change the audio from high to low.

  6. Step 6

Press "INFO" to get the channel guide for your television. If you have cable or a satellite and you were given a specific remote, you can access the channel which shows the airing date and time for various television shows.
