How to Use the TV for the Internet

TVs have come a long way in the last fifty years. They used to be simple vehicles for watching shows and movies. Now they are capable of so much more, including acting as computer monitors and allowing users to access the Web from the their living rooms. Using a TV for Internet access can be done in a number of ways.

Instructions

1. Buy a PlayStation 3 or XBox 360. Both of these popular video game systems hook directly to your television the same way a DVD player or VCR would. In addition to playing video games, they each have their own built-in Web browser. By using a wireless Internet connection, they can allow you to browse the Web from your television screen.

2. Use your TV as a computer monitor. Newer LCD televisions will include an input that will allow you to plug your computer into them to use them as a computer monitor. By doing this, not only can you browse the Internet from your TV screen, but you can also use your computer the way you normally would.

3. Buy a set-top Internet box. Services like Veohtv and Joost specialize in bringing Internet content to your television. This comes in the form of a box that you connect to your television the same way you would a DVD player.

4. Buy a Blu-ray player. While a Blu-ray player will not let you access all Web pages, you can connect to the movie's Web page through an existing Internet connection. Using this connection, you can download additional content for the movie and watch trailers and special features.
