Weather elements have given your vinyl spa cover a beating over time. From UV rays to changes in temperature, your spa's cover has seen it all. You don't have to replace your vinyl cover; it can be restored with a little work. Restoring the surface of your spa's cover requires a quick cleaning and a special conditioner to return the shine.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eye goggles
  • Rubber gloves
  • Water hose
  • Water source
  • Dishwashing soap
  • Bucket
  • Soft bristle brush
  • Saddle soap or a vinyl conditioning product
  • Clean rags or shop towels
  1. Step 1

Remove the vinyl spa cover from the spa and place it on a clean, flat surface. Wear gloves and eye goggles.

  2. Step 2

Rinse the cover with water to remove any loose dirt, dust and debris.

  3. Step 3

Fill a bucket with a mixture of 50% water and 50% dishwashing soap. Agitate the mixture with a soft-bristle brush.

  4. Step 4

Pour some cleaning mixture on to the cover and start scrubbing the surface with the soft-bristle brush. Use a circular motion and work slowly. Try not to let the cover become dry and keep the mixture from hardening on the surface. Continue scrubbing until any stuck-on debris is free.

  5. Step 5

Rinse cover completely and let dry for at least 10 minutes. Wipe cover with a clean, dry cloth.

  6. Step 6

Apply some saddle soap or a vinyl conditioning product to the spa cover. Cover the entire vinyl cover. Apply with a clean, dry cloth and leave the chemical on the cover.

  7. Step 7

Stand the cover on its side and wipe the other side of the cover with a damp cloth to remove any dust or dirt. Dry the underside with a clean cloth before placing the cover on the spa.

Tips & Warnings
  • If there is tree sap on your cover, use lighter fluid to remove it. Apply sparingly and then immediately apply saddle soap to the treated area. Remove the spa cover and let some air into the spa during seasons when the spa is not in use. This will help prevent mildew from forming and allow some air to flow into the spa. Check you spa cover for tears and rips at least once a year. Have the cover repaired or replaced as needed.
  • Do not apply a petroleum-based product.
