How to Download Internet Access on to the PSP

In addition to playing video games, the PlayStation Portable hand-held gaming system can also browse the Internet. If you bought a PSP at launch, however, you must download a firmware update to allow your PSP to go online. Once you do, your PSP will be able to connect to any wireless Internet connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Point your computer's web browser to Sony's PSP system update webpage.

    • 2

Click "Download Now" and save the file to your hard drive.

    • 3

Connect your PSP to your computer using the USB link cable that came with your console. One end of the cable plugs into the MicroUSB port on the PSP and the other into a standard USB port on your computer.

    • 4

Transfer the file you downloaded to your computer to your PSP's internal hard drive by opening "My Computer" and dropping it into the folder that represents your connected PSP. The update process will begin automatically.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can download the firmware upgrade to your PSP's memory stick. Put the memory stick in your computer, save the file to the stick and then put the stick in your PSP. After turning on your PSP, the upgrade will begin automatically.

  • Do not disconnect your PSP from your computer or turn it off during the update. This can seriously damage the internal software of the PSP that can be fixed only by sending your unit to Sony for repair. Once the update has finished, the PSP will automatically restart itself. Internet connectivity can then be accessed through the "Network" category on the PSP's main menu.
