Instructions

    • 1

Mix the antique finish solution with water. A general ration is one part solution to 10 parts water, but you should check the directions on your antique finish product, because different solutions may have different mixing instructions. Wear rubber gloves and work in a well-ventilated area while you are working with the finishing solution.

    • 2

Place the brass item into the antiquing solution, and hold it under the surface for four to six minutes. Gently rub the surface of the brass item to pop any air bubbles that form. Remove the item from the solution.

    • 3

Rinse the brass item off, and remove any gritty particles with a scrubber sponge. If it is not dark enough, return the item to the solution for another four to six minutes. If the item is darker than what you want, scrub off all of the finish with the scrubber sponge and return it to the solution for a shorter time.

    • 4

Gently pat the finished item dry, making sure not to leave any drops, because they will cause dark spots on the item. If you want, you can now lacquer or wax the item to protect the finish.
