How to Sell Old Toys on eBay
Toys left over from childhood are sometimes a valuable commodity to toy collectors. Connect with toy collectors on eBay to swap old toys for cash. Before you start, you'll need to open accounts on eBay and PayPal if you don't already have them. Once you're ready to sell, find out three things: your toy's condition, its value, and its weight (including packaging).
Instructions
-
Prepare the Toy for eBay
-
1
Assess the toy's condition using toy collector magazines or websites. Note any missing or broken parts.
-
2
Search eBay's completed listings by clicking "Advanced Search" next to eBay's search bar and tick the "Completed Listings" box. See how other sellers listed similar items and how much buyers were willing to pay.
-
-
3
Photograph the toy from many angles. You only need one for your listing, but buyers may request additional photos.
-
4
Package your item carefully. Newspaper or egg cartons work just as well as bubble wrap.
-
5
Weigh your packaged item accurately. Postal scales work best. If you can't make it to the post office, use a kitchen scale or bathroom scale (weigh yourself, and then weigh yourself holding the item and find the difference).
List the Toy on eBay
-
6
Click "Sell an item" on eBay's main page, select a category and proceed to the main listing page.
-
7
Provide a title and describe your item. Use keywords in your title and make your description as detailed as possible.
-
8
Upload one photograph. Link to a photo-hosting site such as Photobucket for additional pictures.
-
9
Set a starting price for your auction. Use your research from Steps 1 and 2 and set a reserve price only if the item is valuable.
-
10
Set shipping costs. Choose "Calculated Shipping" in the shipping section and enter the package's weight. Add a few ounces if you're uncertain of your scale's accuracy. Select at least two shipping options. Choose the cheapest and at least one faster option.
-
11
List your item. Click "Continue," then "List Item." Check your item's status by clicking the "My eBay" link from eBay's home page.
-
12
If your toy sells, ship it within two days of receiving payment. Leave the buyer positive feedback.

Tips & Warnings
Don't be discouraged if your toy is incomplete. Many buyers expect this and are looking for spare parts to complete a set of their own. If your toy doesn't sell the first time, you can re-list it for free. If it still doesn't sell, consider lowering the price or waiting for a while.
Familiarize yourself with eBay's fees. Check "eBay Seller Fees" in the resource section. Never complete a transaction outside of eBay. Limit your communication with buyers to eBay's in-site messaging system.
