1
Unbolt the kitchen island from the floor and install rollers or legs. You can now move the island to another location or change its orientation. Make sure you repair any spots in the floor after unbolting the island.
-
2
Remove a section of drawers on one side of the kitchen island and replace with a wine rack or glass holders. Paint the area inside of the removed section a different color so it will stand out.

3
Install a set of two or more curved track lights above the kitchen island. Vary the tracks: one higher, one in the middle and one lower.
-
4
Hang a pot rack over the island that is the same size as the island below. Hang a variety of pot sizes on the rack and mix the types---copper, iron and others.
-
5
Replace the kitchen island's countertop with a new surface like granite, marble or another stone if your countertop is Formica or tile.
-
6
Replace the cabinet doors on your kitchen island with glass or frosted glass ones. Install lights inside the cabinets to make the doors stand out.
-
7
Paint each drawer and cabinet face a different color---use a textured paint or a paint that is glossy so the colors will stand out.
-
8
Install a mini refrigerator, grill, small sink or bread warmer in the kitchen island. These appliances make the island a bit more useful when you are preparing meals and setting up for a party or other function.
