How to Make a Tied Fleece Blanket With Pictures

One way to stay warm throughout the long winter months is by using a tied fleece blanket. In just a few hours, it is possible to create a cozy tied blanket that can last for many years. Fleece is a perfect material to use for blankets because it is extremely soft and comfortable to the touch, it provides a lot of warmth without being heavy and it's machine washable and dries very quickly. In addition to all this, fleece materials may also be environmentally friendly since they can be made from recycled plastics.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the two pieces of fleece material flat on an appropriate work space so that they are back to back with the picture facing upward, making sure to smooth out any wrinkles in the material. If necessary trim any excess material from the edges of the fleece so that the two pieces are approximately the same size.

    • 2

Create a 6-inch square cardboard pattern using a ruler. Align two sides of the square pattern along the edges of any corner of the two pieces of fleece. Using the pattern as a guide, cut the square piece from the materials with scissors making sure to cut through both pieces of fabric. Repeat this step at the remaining three corners of the blanket.

    • 3

Create a 6-inch by 1 1/2-inch rectangular cardboard cutting-strip pattern with a ruler. Beginning at any chosen corner, place the cardboard cutting strip pattern so that the 6-inch-long side is flush against the previous cut made in the material and the 1 1/2-inch-long side is flush against the edge of the material. Using scissors, cut the length of the cutting-strip pattern through both pieces of material simultaneously. Repeat this process around the entire length of the blanket to create the fringe.

    • 4

Tie the two pieces of fleece together by knotting the corresponding strips of material around the edges of the blanket.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is best to do this project on a large work space, such as a living room floor, so that the materials can be flat throughout the process. Moving the materials around makes it difficult to tie the edges together.
