Instructions

    • 1

Decide what kind of garden fence you want. Your decision will be based on your needs. If you need to keep deer out, you need a fence at least six to eight feet tall. If you want a decorative fence, a picket fence is a good option. Regardless, know what you're trying to accomplish with the fence and make your decision based on that.

    • 2

Using a hammer, stakes and a tape measure, place stakes about a foot and a half from the edge of the garden, around the perimeter. Two or three stakes on each side of the garden should be enough, but make sure there is one stake in each corner of the garden. This foot and a half of space will give you walking room in your garden.

    • 3

Tie rope from stake to stake. This will be your grid when you are building the fence, so the lines are straight. Make sure each stake is standing straight up to more accurately portray the foot and a half of space around the perimeter.

    • 4

Assemble materials and erect your fence. The process will depend on the type of fence you're building, but with the stakes, rope and walking space, you're ready to build any type of fence around your garden.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to buy extra rope and stakes in case you run out and/or need more.
