How to Make a Bootable Windows 98Se Disk on Windows XP

It is not uncommon for a computer to fail or for certain files to become corrupt. As a novice, dealing with such a disaster can be quite stressful--especially if you need to gain access to your computer for important files. The single most important computer tool you should have in your toolbelt is a Windows startup disk. Having a Windows startup disk allows you to gain access to your CD-ROM to reload or fix Windows from your installation DVD/CD.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the Windows XP Professional utility from twurl.nl/cge556.

    • 2

Browse to the location where you downloaded the file. Double-click the file WinXP_EN_PRO_BF.exe and select Run.

    • 3

Accept Microsoft's End User License Agreement (EULA).

    • 4

Insert a formatted 1.44 MB floppy disc. The files are automatically copied to the disc. The next time your computer is unresponsive or crashes, you can use a Windows startup disc to obtain access to your computer and either repair or reinstall your Windows Operating System (OS).
