How to Use Monistat 3 on Eczema

Eczema is a chronic skin condition affecting millions of people around the world. Encompassing a number of diseases characterized by dry, scaly, patchy-white and itchy skin, eczema is normally found in infants and young adults. Most people outgrow the condition, although it can persist. There are a number of causes, one of them believed to be fungal irritants. Over-the-counter anti-fungals such as Monistat have been found to help treat some forms of eczema, and using it can be as effective and cheaper than prescription medications.

  1. How to Use Monistat3 on Eczema

    • 1

Wash the affected area gently with warm soap and water in the morning. Rub any dry or scaly patches with a clean washcloth to remove dead skin. Rinse with plenty of warm water and pat dry, taking care to remove excess water.

    • 2

Apply a small amount of the Monistat to the cotton swab and rub over the entire area. Apply enough to cover the entire area. If you need more, turn the swab over and use the clean side to finish the application.

    • 3

Cover the area after application. If the eczema is on the hand, you can use a clean cotton glove, or if it is on a foot, a clean sock. A cotton bandage works well if the irritation is in another area, as the bandage will be more flexible and easier to use than another type of covering. Be sure to use cotton, though, to allow the area to breathe and prevent trapped moisture, which can irritate the inflammation.

    • 4

Remove the covering and wash the area before going to bed. Use plenty of soap to wash away the old medicine and rinse thoroughly. Dry well, reapply the Monistat, and put on a clean covering to prevent chafing overnight.

    • 5

Repeat this process for approximately a week. If your eczema is caused or irritated by a fungus, the Monistat will have reduced the itching and burning. If you have not noticed any significant improvement, see your doctor for further treatment.

Tips & Warnings

  • Talk to your doctor if you have any questions and before treating any medical condition yourself. Although you may think you know what the problem is, you do not want to create any additional problems.

  • Never use an over-the-counter treatment that you have not cleared with your doctor. Many products are marketed to cure an ailment or condition, but they often do more damage then good.
