How to Get Rid of Migraines with Relaxation Techniques

Stress is a big contributing factor for migraines and their duration. If you’ve ever had migraine headaches then you understand how torturous migraines can be. One of the key factors to shortening the length of migraines is to use relaxation techniques. In fact, you might be able to stop the migraine headaches when you feel them coming on. Use these tips to help with your migraine headaches and feel better.

  1. Step 1

    Locate a quiet spot that you can focus on your breathing when your migraine headaches start coming on. Close your eyes. Inhale and exhale slowly one time. Picture in your mind reading in relaxation and exhaling tension and stress that caused your migraine headaches to start.

    Do this for approximately 5 minutes to help relieve a migraine headache and possibly keep the migraines from progressing.

    Practice using self talk to help relieve migraine headache tensions. Say things to yourself that are positive and encouraging. Write a list of sentences to say to yourself when you are experiencing migraine headaches. Make this list before you use it for self talk to help relieve migraine headache tensions. Take the list out and read it out loud in a whisper. This will help you with a migraine headache hits because you do not have to concentrate on thinking of positive self talk to get through the migraine moment.

    Relax your shoulders by moving them forward and then slowly lifting them and rolling your shoulders back to the original position. Repeat this five times to help relieve tension in the muscles which can cause migraine headache moments to get worse.

    Tilt your head to the left and hold for a moment. Tilt your head to the right and hold for a moment. The your head forward and slowly bring back to the original position. Repeat this twice as you fill in migraine headache moment coming on. Close your eyes and breathe in and out deeply when the migraine headaches start. Repeat this step several times to relieve a migraine headache moment.

  2. Step 2
