Things You'll Need:
- Pipe cleaners
- Scissors
- Glue
- "Googly" Eyes
- Beads (optional)
- Fuzzy Yarn (optional)
-
Step 1
The first step to make these spiders is to get the pipe cleaners and supplies together. To make a basic spider you will need glue and "googly" eyes. To make a beaded spider you need to add craft beads to the list and to make the hairy spider you need fuzzy yarn.
-
Step 2
After you have collected the supplies, take 4 pipe cleaners for the spiders legs and twist them around in the middle until they are secured together. If you want to make a smaller spider take 2 pipe cleaners bend in half and then twist in the middle finish off by cutting the ends so you have the eight legs. For a larger spider uses 8 pipe cleaners for the legs.
-
Step 3
Next attach another pipe cleaner to the center of the spider's legs. I have used different colors in the pictures to clearly illustrate how to make the body.
-
Step 4
Next make a two loops with the pipe cleaner attached in previous step, one for the head and one for the body.
-
Step 5
Then take another pipe cleaner and begin wrapping it around the body form until you have the size of spider body you prefer. To attach the next pipe cleaner simply twist them together and continue wrapping.
-
Step 6
Finish wrapping the spider body and take the end of the last pipe cleaner and insert it into the spider so there are no sharp ends.
-
Step 7
Turn the spider over and bend each leg so that the spider sits up on its legs. You can also bend a little hook at the ends of the legs for its feet if you would prefer.
-
Step 8
Finished SpiderNow it is time to attach the "googly" eyes. A hot glue gun is fast and easy for attaching the eyes but any strong glue will work. Once you are done with the eyes your basic spider is complete. For further variations continue on to the next steps.
-
Step 9
Hairy SpiderTo make this hairy Spider simply complete the above steps and then begin wrapping the spider with a fuzzy yarn. Tie the yarn around the body and then wrap it around the body first and then move to the legs. For the legs wrap the yarn down the legs and then back up and then alternate to the opposite side for the next leg until you are done. To finish tie a knot in the string around the spiders body and secure with a small dab of glue on the back of the spider.
-
Step 10
Beaded SpiderBeading the spider is another fun way to spice up the basic spider. All you need is craft beads. Simply bead each leg and then secure a final bead on the bottom of each leg by tucking the pipe cleaner through the bead and then back up under the previous bead.
-
Step 11
One last thing if you want to add a white pipe cleaner to the back of the spider it makes it easier to hang the spider. You can see this "thread" in the picture in the step above.
