Eat and Exercise to Flatten Your Stomach

If you are serious about losing “love handles”, flattening your stomach, and getting in your best shape, below are some steps to help your reach your goals. Being disciplined with a lifestyle that incorporates healthy eating habits and exercise will enable you to maintain your “new look”.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

The first thing you should not do is develop an exercise regimen or change your eating habits. The first thing you should do is make up your mind to “do this and stick with it”. Once you do that you can decide how you should eat and what exercise program will work best for you. Here are some helpful tips.

  2. Step 2

Stay away from “bad” fats such as saturated and trans fats as well as “white” products such as white bread, white sugars and white rice. Eat whole wheat and whole grains, fruits, vegetables, low-fat milk, lean meats, baked poultry and fish, beans, eggs, etc. According to the American Heart Association and American Medical Association these foods are conducive to a healthy lifestyle. Please view these associations websites listed in the "Resources" section below for more information on healthy food choices and a healthy lifestyle.

  3. Step 3

You should combine healthy eating habits with abdominal exercises to achieve a flat and toned stomach. Here are some suggestions for exercises to do on a mat on the floor: Pilates, bicycling on your back, hip lifts, and traditional sit-ups and crunches. An exercise ball is also an excellent tool for doing abdominal work and has been proven to be very effective. Aerobics exercise will help you to not only flatten your stomach but lose weight all over when exercising five days a week for thirty minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pace yourself, don't try to get it off more quicker than normal. This will help you maintain the weight loss.
  • Continue eating healthy and a regular exercise regimen and you will be able to maintain a flat stomach.
  • Seeing it as a "lifestyle change" and not a "diet" will help you mentally adjust to the change and maintain your desired weight loss.
  • Be sure to check with your physician on any weight loss and exercise programs.
