Budget and Prepare for a Baby
Budget and Prepare for a Baby

Preparing for a new baby can be tough work, especially during times when money is tight. Luckily, there are quite a few ways to prepare for a baby and keep up a good budget while doing so.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First of all, plan ahead and make a list of items that are essential for having a baby. Have a set amount of money you'd be willing to pay for all of these items and do not plan to spend a dollar over that amount. You will find a lot of items that you will want to spontaneously buy, but sticking to your list and budget ahead of time will save you tons in the long run!

  2. Step 2

Take hand-me-downs. Many people will be overjoyed at the news of you having a baby. Many will want to give you items that they no longer need for their own kids. Take them! Used clothes and baby items are almost always in good condition due to their light wear. Babies go through items so quickly that spending a fortune on these items should be avoided.

  3. Step 3

Used children's stores are a great place to find used clothes and items for the new baby. Like taking hand-me-downs from friends and family, the items in these stores have little wear and are cheaper and just as good as buying new and more expensive items.

  4. Step 4

Have a baby shower thrown for you! Chances are, someone wants to throw you one. Many people will be happy to show up and shower you with gifts for your little one. You can get a lot of needed items at a shower. Remember to make a registry!

  5. Step 5

Shop around for the best deal. Looking online can be a great tool. Before buying something at one store, look at another. Some products can be 30 dollars cheaper elsewhere!

  6. Step 6

Shop on sites like Craigslist.com or Ebay.com

  7. Step 7

Only buy the things you need immediately. Buy the other things as your baby grows. A problem most parents come across is that their kids do not use certain items purchased for them. Know your child before you set out to buy specific items for their older months.
