Whether you want to throw your kids a birthday, Halloween, Christmas or even a back to school party, these basic tips will help you plan a great party your kids will enjoy!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • party supplies
  • food
  • kids
  1. Step 1

Decide how many kids you can comfortably accommodate. The "more the merrier" saying doesn't always apply for a terrific party. Take into account whether the party will be indoors or outdoors, and how many children you feel you can handle.

  2. Step 2

Decide on a date, time and get those invitations ready! You can choose the formal written invitations, send out e-mails or even just call or text to invite your guests. Be sure to give an R.S.V.P. date that is at least one week prior to the party so you have plenty of time to prepare.

  3. Step 3

Decide on a theme and how to decorate. Decorations should match the feel for your party, and simple inexpensive decorations can go a long way. Balloons and crepe paper to match the theme, like black and orange for Halloween, green and red for Christmas, can really add to the festive spirit.

  4. Step 4

Plan your food. Do you want to serve a meal during your party or just have simple finger foods and snacks? Kids love foods that are tied into the theme of the party, so try shaped cookies or cupcakes decorated according to the overall theme.

  5. Step 5

Plan lots of games and activities. Games are a must for a great party and simple but fun activities are wonderful entertainment as well. Plan about 15-20 minutes for each game or activity, and have a couple of back up games or a craft in case they take less time than you think to play or do them.

  6. Step 6

Have fun yourself. Younger kids absolutely love it when mom or dad get in on the action. If it's a costume party, dress up too. Doing a relay race as one of the games? Take part in it. Nothing cracks kids up more than seeing adults act like kids.
