There are many different types of pencils. If you normally use the traditional #2 pencil, then you are most likely having trouble finding traditional pencil sharpeners. Consider switching to a mechanical pencil. It is easier to add lead to the mechanical pencil then you might think.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Any mechanical pencil
  • Lead (sizes are between 0.2 to 0.9)
  • Thumb Tack, Paper Clip, or Safety Pin
  1. Step 1

Check your pencil to see what type of lead you need. It will be on the package of the pencils or on the clip on the pencil.

  2. Step 2

You can purchase lead at any Office Max, Staples, or any other office supply store.

  3. Step 3

Next take off the eraser on the end of your pencil. If the eraser is too small for your fingers, use a thumb tack, paper clip or safety pin. Use the pointy end and push it into the side of the eraser and pull up. (You may also be able to use a paper clip to clamp onto the eraser.)

  4. Step 4

Once you fill the inside of your pencil with a few sticks of lead replace your eraser on top.

Tips & Warnings
  • Any sharp tips of clamp can help you to take off the eraser.
  • Be careful not to puncture yourself.
