A frappuccino is a cold, sweet treat with a critical jolt of caffeine. Starbucks, which made frappuccino a registered trademark in 1995, charges at least $3 for the small serving. A homemade version can produce a 16 oz. drink that costs less. The user can replace cream with milk, use Splenda instead of sugar, and control the level of calories with the lighter toppings. Things You'll Need

  • Blender
  • Coffee pot or espresso machine
  • 2 cups ice
  • ½ cup espresso or dark roast coffee
  • ½ cup low-fat milk
  • 1 to 2 tbsp. sugar or Splenda
  • Flavoring
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

      Brew a pot of double-strength dark roast coffee. Chill it in the refrigerator.

      Blend the coffee, milk, sugar and a flavor choice on high speed until the sugar dissolves. Blend for approximately 20 to 30 seconds.

      Add ice and blend until the mixture is smooth and thick. Transfer the drink to a glass and top it with whipped cream.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some optional flavors are 1 to 2 tbsp. of chocolate and caramel.
