Find a Pumpkin Pattern to Carve

Want to have a pumpkin on your step that everyone will be talking about? Tired of the boring two circles for eyes, a triangle for the nose, and a big mouth on your pumpkin? Follow these steps to find the perfect pumpkin template and pattern to carve this year!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • computer with internet access
  1. Step 1

Begin by cutting the top off of your pumpkin and scooping out the inside. You may want to save the seeds for roasting later!! Be very careful when cutting and always ask an adult for help! When your pumpkin is smoothed out on the inside, you can start looking for the perfect pumpkin carving pattern. Try to leave the pumpkin at least an inch thick so that the carving will be easier.

  2. Step 2

    Begin by looking at http://www.hersheys.com/trickortreats/activities/stencils.asp

This website is set up in a very kid-friendly way. You may decide if you want an easy, intermediate, or advanced carving pattern. If it is your first time, you may want to stick to an easier carving pattern until you get the hang of it!

  3. Step 3

Pick the pattern that you want to carve on your pumpkin and print it out. Tape the pattern to your pumpking and use a pin to punch small holes around the outline of the carving template (pattern). When you have outlined the entire picture, remove the paper and use your carving knife to carefully cut out the pattern. Be sure to cut slowly and have an adult help if necessary! Enjoy!
