You want to make sure you have a good camera before you do anything. 8 megapixels is good for day to day shots. It doesn't have to be a pricey camera.

Kids are perfect to take pictures of. You can turn them lose in a yard and they are naturally photogenic. Some of my best shots were when they wern't paying attention.

Always have your camera turned on and ready to snap. Close ups of profile shots are always good. Sometimes when they are not smiling and just doing thwir own thing is the best time to click away.

Step 4
Just try taking them outside one day with your camera and see what you can come up with. Your ability might surprise you!

A lot of computers have photo editing software installed on them. Try shading in the edges or some kind of border.
