How to Clean Chrome and Remove Rust Without Expensive Cleaners

Get rust off of chrome easily with some common household pruducts!

If you have a corrosion problem or tarnished chrome on your Vehicle, inside or outside of your home, or have any chrome plated item that needs a little cleaning or life breathed back into it, this article is for you! I will show you how to use some common household items you can use to get your chrome finish back to new!

Instructions

1. If you just want a great shine without buying unnecessary chrome cleaner, try using Windex, club soda or water solution mixed with a little ammonia. For tougher dirt, uses baking soda and water. The baking soda acts as a mild abrasive that is sparingly effective when cleaning chrome.

2. To get moderate surface rust from a chromed surface such as car bumper, try using a scouring pad and Coco Cola. You can also use crumpled aluminum foil and rub out the rust that way. Avoid using harsh abrasives such as steel wool. Harsh abrasives can dull and damage the chrome finish.

3. Unfortunately, even though these natural cleaners and abrasives will do a great job with removing surface rust and making your chrome shine, they will not seal and protect like commercially available Chrome cleaners made by such brands as Turtle Wax or Mothers. But if you are low on cash, the methods outlined above can save you a little money.
