Shrink wrap is a plastic film used to tightly seal in one or more objects together. Shrink wrap comes in rolls of film and in shrink wrap bags for individual items. You can buy specialized shrink wrapping equipment in various sizes for different types of shrink wrapping jobs. Additionally, a paint stripper heat gun works for packing with shrink wrap. Shrink wrap film shrinks in all directions and as such requires a sealer to ensure that the entire product being shrink wrapped is completely covered.

Things You'll Need:

How to Pack with Shrink Wrap

  1. Step 1

Choose the correct amount of shrink wrap or the appropriately sized shrink wrap bag and place your items inside of the bag. If using the wrapping film evenly wrap your item or items around the products.

  2. Step 2

Seal the open ends of the shrink wrap film or bag.

  3. Step 3

Heat the various surface areas evenly. Hover over the shrink wrap with a heating gun.

  4. Step 4

Direct the heating gun to the areas of the shrink wrap that are still loosened. Once the shrink wrap is smooth and tight around the entire area you are packaging you have successfully packed with shrink wrap.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may want to attempt shrink wrapping to a few practice items to start while you become comfortable with the process and how the heat gun and the shrink wrap react to one another. A hair dryer doesn't work for shrink wrapping unless it can reach 300 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
  • Hovering over one spot with the heat gun for an extended period will split a shrink wrap bag and damage the product you are packing with shrink wrap.
