How to Clean an Ear With a Water Pick

Depending on the person, it is not uncommon for wax deposits to build up in the ear canal. These clogging deposits can lead to reduced hearing capacity, pressure headaches, and even provide a breeding ground for bacteria that will in turn lead to ear infections. In order to reduce the levels of waxy buildup, one option that can be pursued is the use of a water pick device.

Things You'll Need

• Water pick
• Two small bowls
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Luke warm water
• Towel

Instructions

How to Clean an Ear with a Water Pick

1. Boil several cups of water and then let stand until the water is room temperature. Boiling the water--or using purified water--will reduce the amount of bacteria present in the water and thus reduce the chance for infection.

2. Place one cup of room-temperature water in one of the two bowls. Add one half cup of hydrogen peroxide to the bowl with the water and mix the two together.

3. Fill the water pick device's reservoir with the water and hydrogen peroxide mixture.

4. Turn the water pick device on its lowest setting and place the nozzle at the entrance to the ear that is to be cleaned first. Place towel on shoulder of the same side and hold the empty bowl under the ear to catch run off.

5. Spray mixture from water pick device into ear gently.

6. Once finished with the first ear, repeat the process on the other ear.
