How to Hang a TV Stand
Hanging a TV allows for viewing from all parts of the room. Whether you want to hang the television flat to the wall or using a stand allows it to be adjusted depends on your preferences. With today's plasma televisions, this may be a safer alternative for those who have children. Protecting the screen from damage is one consideration for a wall-mounted television stand rather than placing it on a floor model television stand.

1
Turn off the power to the part of the house where you will be hanging the TV stand. Use the stud finder to find the studs on this wall. Mark these with a pencil. Measure the television and find the vertical center. Mark this on the wall at 5 feet up from the floor between the marks you made for the studs.

2
Use the screwdriver to remove the caps on the back of the television mounting holes. Attach the mounting bracket to the back of the television using the screws that were included with the mounting kit. Use the cordless screwdriver to ensure the mounting kit is secure.

3
Hold the television wall plate to the wall using the line you marked earlier as the vertical center. Ensure the wall plate is not crooked by using your level. Once it is level, mark the holes at the exact spots on the wall studs where you will drill for the lag bolts.

4
Pre-drill the holes for the lag bolts into the studs you marked earlier. Attach the wall plate to the wall by screwing the lag bolts into the pre-drilled holes. Check it again to make sure the mounting kit is level. Have a couple of helpers hold the television while you make all the hook-ups.

5
Line up the wall plate attachments to the mounting bracket holes on the television. Hang your television and make sure it is secure. Turn the breaker back on for this area of the home.

Tips & Warnings
Generally studs are either 16 or 24 inches apart.
The most common type of mount for flat-screen televisions holds the television about 3 inches from the wall. It allows the television to be tilted.
Always turn off the power before drilling in walls.
