How to Interview for a Christian School Teaching Job

It is important to prepare for a job interview several days before the interview. Determine the skills needed for the job at the Christian school and clearly define those skills in a cover letter, as well as a detailed resume.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk to friends and family members about the job to help you discover whether you have the desire and ability to teach at a Christian school. Teaching in this type of environment involves prayer, daily Bible verse readings and studying aspects of Christianity. Students will be looking to the teacher for guidance and understanding when it comes to learning what is right and what is wrong.

    • 2

Conduct research on the Christian school prior to the interview. Find out where the school stands regarding liberal and conservative Christianity. The employer will more than likely want to know how long you have been a Christian, the church you attend and any knowledge you have regarding the Bible.

    • 3

Arrive on time to the scheduled interview and dress accordingly. Women may choose to wear an appropriate suit, dress slacks or skirt with a blouse. It is proper for men to wear a suit or a button up shirt with a tie and dress pants. A Christian school atmosphere is usually strict, which most times will include a dress code for students and teachers. Shake hands with the person conducting the interview, look her in the eye and don't show any nervousness.

    • 4

Share a specific teaching or real life experience that will help demonstrate the value your teaching will bring to a Christian school. Tell the employer why you think you will be a good fit for the current opening. State in detail what you would bring to the school and how you plan to teach in a Christian environment.

    • 5

Ask questions about the teaching position. Find out how long the school has been operating and what is expected of teachers and staff. Be sure lesson plans are outlined and understood. Inquire about daily religion classes and what you will be required to teach.

    • 6

Be prepared to quote a favorite verse from the Bible if asked. Before leaving the interview, state once more your desire to teach at the school and why you are the appropriate candidate. Shake hands with the employer, smile and walk away with your head held high.

Tips & Warnings

  • Outline a favorite Bible lesson plan and bring it with you to the interview.
