Things You'll Need:
- Floor jack
- Socket set
- Screwdrivers
- New front disc brake pads
-
Step 1
Raise the front of the Camaro (at the brake to be repaired) by lifting it with the floor jack. Place the floor jack onto the frame, between the door and the wheel, and pump the jack until the wheel is in the air.
-
Step 2
Remove the wheel by turning the lug nuts in a counterclockwise direction. Set the wheel aside.
-
Step 3
Remove the caliper by turning the twin rear mount bolts counterclockwise, then sliding the caliper off the rotor.
-
Step 4
Pull the pads from the caliper pistons, as they are not secured to the caliper. Heat and debris may have stuck them to the caliper piston, but they can be loosened with a screwdriver.
-
Step 5
Replace the worn pads with new units, then slide the caliper back onto the rotor.
-
Step 6
Turn the caliper mount bolts clockwise until they are snug.
-
Step 7
Bleed the caliper and brake lines by turning the bleeder nipple (on the rear of the caliper) counterclockwise, then continuing to pour DOT-3 brake fluid into the master cylinder while depressing the brake pedal. This may require the help of another person. The brake pedal cannot be depressed from the engine bay; so if you're doing this alone, act quickly so that you don't let the master cylinder run dry (this would introduce air into the system). Close the nipple in a clockwise direction after the air and old fluid are purged.
-
Step 8
Replace the wheel by turning the lug nuts clockwise, in an alternating pattern.
-
Step 9
Lower the Camaro to the ground by turning the floor jack's pressure screw counterclockwise.
-
Step 10
Repeat the entire process on the opposite wheel.
