1
Find out your Azimuth, Elevation and Skew levels. This can be done by opening the "Point Dish and Signal Strength" menu onscreen and entering your ZIP code. The levels will be shown at the bottom of the screen. Write this information down.
-
2
Go outside and point your compass so that the marked end is aligned on the "N."
-
-
3
Locate the azimuth number on the compass. Do not move the compass; make sure that the marked end is still pointing to "N."
-
4
Mark the direction that the azimuth number is pointing toward. This can be done by pointing a stick toward that direction or by visually marking the direction by locating a landmark such as a tree or plant.
-
5
Lay the compass down. Stand and face the direction of the azimuth level you just located.
-
6
Hold your arm straight up as if you was pointing to the sky. The direction that you are pointing toward (the sky) is 90 degrees. The direction that your finger will point if you hold your arm directly in front of you is 0 degrees.
-
7
Adjust your arm so that you are pointing the degree that the elevation level is. (Example: If the elevation level is 45 degrees, you will adjust your arm to point between 90 degrees, which is straight up, and 0 degrees, which is straight out.)
-
8
Confirm that the direction that you are pointing toward (your elevation level) is free of trees or other structures that may interfere with the dish signal. If there is a blockage of sight, move to a new location and begin these steps over until you locate a clear line of sight.
-
9
Mark the direction that you are pointing with a stick or use a visual landmark. This is where the satellites are for Dish Network.
-
10
Install your dish. Point the dish toward the direction that you marked earlier.
-
11
Confirm that your dish is pointed correctly. Go inside and view the signal meter. If you are receiving a signal, the meter will show the strength. If the receiver is not receiving a signal, adjust your satellite dish slightly.
