How to Download a Song Onto Your Computer
The process of downloading music requires the use of a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing program that extracts song files from the Internet through an enhanced search engine. Most peer-to-peer file sharing programs are user-friendly and accessible with a stable Internet connection.

Download LimeWire (see Resources). Select the LimeWire plan you want and double-click "Download." Select "Save" in the file download window that will appear. Follow the LimeWire installation wizard's prompts to complete the process.

Configure your LimeWire settings. Choose only the recommended settings given by the LimeWire installation wizard. Disable your computer's file sharing capability when this option is presented. Click "Finish" and check the "Run LimeWire" action on the last screen of the installation wizard. LimeWire will open automatically.

Search for the song you want to download. Type the artist's name and song title in the search bar at the top of the LimeWire screen. Click on the "Search" action on the right side of the data form.

Download the song to your computer by double-clicking on the song. It will then be transferred to the download panel at the bottom of the screen. The song will be saved to your computer automatically once the download reaches 100 percent.

Tips & Warnings
When the search results appear, there may be hundreds of songs listed. Only opt to download songs that are 3,000 MB to 7,000 MB. This is usually the average size of songs that are 3 to 8 minutes long. The song should also be in MP3 format so it is compatible with any media player. There are P2P file sharing programs other than LimeWire, including BearShare and Napster. See Resources to view a list. Update LimeWire regularly. Update alerts will be displayed each time you open LimeWire on your computer. The best way to ensure downloading success is to keep your software current.
Your Internet connection must be stable in order to complete a download. The slower your Internet connection, the longer it will take to download a song. Song downloads should not be used for redistribution. If you want to resell your song downloads, you must purchase LimeWire Pro.
