Tire cables give added traction to your tires, making driving a little safer during the winter season. Snow and ice on the road make for a slick drive, and tire cables can help prevent your car from sliding and getting stuck. Tire cables are less expensive than tire chains and are rather simple to install.

Things You'll Need:

  • Tire cables
  1. Step 1

Drape the tire cable over the tire, with the cross cable connectors pointing outward. Tire cables should always be installed on the drive tires.

  2. Step 2

Reverse the car about an eighth of a turn to expose the ends of the tire cable.

  3. Step 3

Connect the ends of the tire cable into the appropriate connector, making sure the tire cable is tightly secured on the tire. Do this for both sides of the tire cable.

  4. Step 4

Drive your vehicle about a quarter of a mile. Stop and check the tire cables to ensure they are tight enough. You should check your tire cables every so often to ensure tightness.

Tips & Warnings
