How to Find Area 51 on Google Earth

Few places in the United States have inspired as much speculation as Area 51, a military base in Nevada's desert. Depending on who you ask, this base contains aliens, people with telepathic powers or the studio where the moon landing was faked---all conspiracy theories that are commonly referenced in popular culture. The US Government says the base is where the future of military aviation is tested. If you'd like to check out the base for yourself, it is common to do so on Google Earth.

Instructions

    • 1

Install Google Earth, if you don't already have it (free download, see Resources for link). This free program allows you to explore a virtual "Earth," made up of satellite images.

    • 2

Open Google Earth and begin the search for Area 51. Doing this is really easy: click the search bar, which can be found at the top of the panel on the left side of the screen, and type "Area 51."

    • 3

Hit "Enter" to make the search happen. Google Earth will zoom into Area 51 automatically, showing you the air strip and the various warehouses that make up the top secret base. You've found it. Unfortunately this view will not show you the contents that cause so much speculation.
