Loosen a hinge that is too tight. Now that the door hangs straight, judge the alignment within the frame.
-
Step 2
If the hinges are not causing the fit problem, remove the door from the hinges. Use the nail set and hammer to lift the pins out of the hinges. Remove the door from the frame.
-
Step 3
Set the door in place. Place the door in the frame in the place it will hang. Insert shims under the door bottom on the left and right to set the door at the right height. If needed, adjust the door until it sits right in the right place.
-
Step 4
Measure a good door edge. Use the pencil to mark where the door edge should be. All the way around the door, measure 1/8-inch clearance from the frame, and draw pencil lines on the door to show the good edge. Remove the door from the frame again.
-
Step 5
Sand the door down to get good door edges. For each place on the door that is too close to the frame, take the sanding block with coarse sandpaper, and sand the area down to the pencil line. Using medium sandpaper, even the door edge to meet the pencil lines all the way around. Sand the door edges smooth with fine sand paper.

Step 6
Set the door in place to hang. Place the door in the frame again. Place the two shims under the door, and adjust the door into the right place. Make sure the door hangs straight.

Step 7
Secure the door. Place the pins back in the hinges. If the door is not hanging straight, adjust the hinges.
