Double burner Lodge grill pans are made of cast iron and can serve as two different types of cookware. One side of the pan is for grilling, with raised ridges that will leave the familiar grill marks on meats and vegetables. The opposite side of the pan is smooth, making it perfect for using as a griddle for pancakes or eggs. Individual burner sized Lodge grill pans do not have this versatility and are used as a grill only. Clean-up for either version is simple and easy to accomplish.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stiff nylon brush
  • Paper towels
  • Cooking oil
  1. Step 1

Drain off any grease collected in the pan.

  2. Step 2

Clean the pan under hot running water, using a stiff nylon brush to remove any leftover food debris.

  3. Step 3

Dry the grill immediately using paper towels or a dish towel.

  4. Step 4

Place the grill pan back on the stove eye and turn the burner on medium to high until the grill pan is thoroughly dry.

  5. Step 5

Rub a thin layer of cooking oil using paper towels over the grill surface. This will help keep rust from forming on the cast iron.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experts are divided on the use of soap for cast iron. The makers of Lodge cast iron recommend not using soap for their products. (See Resources below.) The use of soap and steel wool recommended by some will require that you re-season your cast iron more often, sometimes after every washing, in order for the grill pan to retain its nonstick nature. Always dry your cast iron grill pan after washing. Allowing it to air-dry will allow rust to form on the surface which will require it to be re-seasoned.
