How to Install a Free Media Player
On a computer, a media player is used to play music and videos. VLC is a free media player compatible with Windows, Mac OS and Linux. It is capable of playing music files in the MP3, OGG and FLAC formats, and videos in the MPEG, AVI and H.264 formats, among many others.

Go to videolan.org/vlc/ (see Resources).

Click on the "Download" link, then click the link for your appropriate operating system. The steps below use Windows.

Click the "Download" link shown next to "Random Mirror." Save the file to your desktop.

Double click the saved file. In Windows, it would be "vlc-1.0.2-win32.exe." If you receive a message from Windows stating that the publisher could not be verified, click "Run."

Select your desired language and click "OK."

Click "Next," then click "I Agree" after reading the license terms.

Click "Next," then choose a destination folder and click "Install."

Click "Finish." Media files that you play should now open in VLC Media Player.
