Things You'll Need:
- Stump grinder
- Steel-toed boots
- Eye protection
- Long sleeved shirt
-
Step 1
First of all when having a tree cut down, ask the person cutting down the tree, to cut the tree as low to the ground as you possible can.
-
Step 2
To remove a stump you will need to rent a stump grinder from a local hardware store. Some larger chains rent stump grinders, but you may have to go to a industrial equipment rental store, to get what you need.
-
Step 3
Rent a grinder for the height and diameter of the stump you want removed. Make sure the grinder you rent has a skirt to curtail flying debris. If you have never used a stump grinder, get professional help and instructions from a rental store specialist.
-
Step 4
Wear protective gargles, ear plus steel-toed boots, and a long sleeved shirt to lessen the possibility of injury. Also remove all stones or large rocks from the immediate area of the stump.
-
Step 5
Before your start the stump grinder make sure the break is set before you start the machine. Lower the blades in front of the stump and turn on the stump grinder. Use a side to side swing motion to grind down the stump to the desired level.
