Brown discharge in early pregnancy can be disconcerting. Every little ache and pain, or strange colored discharge often makes women immediately afraid something is wrong with the baby. Although that is one option, there are other reasons for brown discharge early in pregnancy.
Count how many weeks it has been from your last period. If it is around week 5, the brown discharge in early pregnancy could simply be implantation bleeding. Sometimes when the egg implants into the uterine wall, a bit of blood passes.
Think about any other symptoms. Do you have cramping? is the brown discharge in early pregnancy heavy or extremely light? Heavy flow with cramping often indicates a miscarriage. If neither one of these apply, move to the next step.
Think about what your sexual experiences within the last day or so. I you have had intercourse, brown discharge early in pregnancy is often caused by penile irritation to the cervix.
Consider your doctor appointment. If you had one within the past 24 hours, was there any sort of vaginal exam. Just like in intercourse, these exams can cause brown discharge in early pregnancy because the cervix is extra sensitive.
