Mend A Button
Mend A Button

We all have shirts laying around that are missing a button. Sometimes two or three. We either continue to wear them regardless, or they sit there waiting to be repaired.

And sometimes they will sit there waiting for eternity...because we don't know how to fix the shirt.

The truth is that properly sewing on a button isn't nearly as difficult as it appears. It is actually quite simple.

Here is how to sew a button.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shirt
  • Button
  • Thread
  • Needle
  1. Step 1

Place the button where you want it to be attached.

  2. Step 2

On the underside of the garment, poke a needle through the material and up to the top following through to hole "a" in the button...

  3. Step 3

Take thread down through the hole "d"

  4. Step 4

    Thread up through hole "c"

  5. Step 5

    Thread down through hole "b"

  6. Step 6

    Thread up through hole "a"

  7. Step 7

    Continue in the same manner:

    - Thread down through hole "b"

    - Thread up through hole "d"

    - Thread down through hole "c"

    - Thread up through hole "a"

    - Thread down through hole "c"

    - Thread up through hole "d"

    - Thread down through hole "b"

    Repeat 1-10 times.

  8. Step 8

After pulling back to the underside, make a loop with the thread. Feed thread through the hoop and pull to make a knot. Repeat three times.
