Easy Beef Goulash

There are many variations on Beef Goulash; some with vegetables and this one without. This easy, time saving recipe will warm the soul and please any hearty appetite.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1/2 lbs. beef cubes
  • 1 envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup flour and 1 cup water for thickening sauce
  • egg noodles or other favorite wide noodles
  • heavy saucepan
  1. Step 1

In a dutch oven or heavy saucepan, brown the meat in olive oil. Stir in Lipton Onion Soup Mix, tomato paste and water. Simmer, covered for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. The longer you let it simmer, the more tender the meat will be!

  2. Step 2

Boil noodles according to package directions, drain and butter them and keep warm.

  3. Step 3

When the meat is tender, thicken the goulash with a mixture of flour and water. To do this, mix approximately 1 cup of water with 1/2 cup of flour until smooth. Bring the goulash to a boil and stir in the flour and water mixture, a little at a time, until it reaches the thickness you desire.

  4. Step 4

Serve, in your favorite bowl, the goulash over the buttered noodles along with a green salad and some warm rolls. A nice glass of red wine compliments this wonderfully!

    Enjoy...

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe also works well doubled - I have tripled it and frozen left- overs!
  • Be sure that your water and flour mixture is smooth. If it is lumpy, your sauce will have lumps in it and you don't want that! Also - your sauce needs to be brought to a boil before adding the flour and water. Once thickened, you may lower the heat again.
