Towel storage can be a problem in small bathrooms. Shelves installed on the wall space behind the toilet can solve this dilemma.. It’s convenient and can become an attractive and decorative display area for your towels in a small bathroom. It simple and its easy and cheap. Just imagine no more getting out of the shower and realizing you don’t have a towel. They’ll be right at your finger tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shelves
  • Brackets
  • Screws
  • Electric Screw Driver
  • Measuring tape
  • Carpenter Level
  • Towels
  1. Step 1

Measure across the back of your toilet. You’ll want the shelves to be the width of the back of your toilet. You don’t want the towel shelves to stick out so much that someone will hit their head. So in a small bathroom measure carefully.

  2. Step 2

Go to your local home improvement store and purchase two shelves the size you need. If you have some scrape lumber laying around the house you can do it yourself just by cutting the lumber the size you need and buying the brackets you’ll need. If you don’t have any scrape it’s just as cheap to buy shelves ready to install. Just make sure all the brackets and screw are included in the shelf kit and the shelf will fit the bathroom wall.

  3. Step 3

Paint the bathroom shelves. You can go with the same color as the wall or a contrasting color. The same color will blend in with the bathroom and a contrasting color will give it some extra life. It depends on what you prefer. The shelves are ready to install.

  4. Step 4

Find the stud in the bathroom. Most studs are either 16 inches or 24 inches apart. Measure from corner to find a starting point. When there’s a stud behind the drywall it will sound solid when you thump it with your finger. Drive a small finishing nail into wall to make sure you’ve found the stud. Put a pencil mark where the studs are. You want to attach your shelves to a stud so they will hold.

  5. Step 5

Decide where to put the shelves. Use a carpenters level to make sure the shelf is level. Draw a line where you want the shelf. Use the line as a guide, screw the bracket into the wall using an electric screw driver. When brackets are attached to wall, lay shelf across brackets and attach shelf to brackets with screws. Shelf should be strong enough to hold bathroom towels.

  6. Step 6

Roll bathroom towels and lay on shelves. Take a square basket turn on its side for rolled washcloths. Put your favorite bubble bath on top of bathroom shelf.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add a towel bar under the bottom bathroom shelf to display pretty hand towels.
  • Double check your measurements.
  • Make sure your shelf is level.
