    The Best Exercise for Losing Weight

    This is a question, that as a personal trainer I'm asked on a regular basis. The hard and fast answer for the majority of the public is brisk walking or slow jogging. The reason for this is that when you exercise you burn carbohydrates and fat, but not equally, depending on how intensely you exercise will affect what percentage of these two energy sources you burn.

    When you do brisk walking or slow jogging you will burn around 60% FAT and 40% CARBS. So the majority of what you will burn will be fat.

    Now for more intense exercise like running or sprinting you will burn around 60% CARBS and 40% FAT but you are also burning them both faster than if you where walking briskly.

    So this is where it gets tricky because most people can walk for an hour without to many problems but to reach the same amount of fat loss from running they would need to run for around 30 minutes. Now allot of people would find running for 30 minutes to be to hard. In which case light jogging or brisk walking would be the best for them at this stage.

    On the other hand there are allot of us that don't have an hour to exercise but we can squeeze 30 minutes in. Which would mean the best way to burn the most energy would be to run for the 30 minutes.

    My recommendation is to start your exercise program with walking briskly and build your way up to light jogging. If you have limited time than build up to running.

    Now this doesn't mean that the only exercise that works is walking and running this principle applies to any exercise and how intensely you perform it. Eg. slow swimming vs fast swimming, slow cycling vs fast cycling.

  3. Step 3

    Tips for loosing weight

    Remember to include a healthy diet rich in unprocessed foods!
    Eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large meals.
    Walk anywhere you can instead of drive.
    Find an exercise that you enjoy doing! This can make all the difference!
    Try to eat at home as much as possible so you know what goes into your food.
    Do weight training to build muscle, because the more muscle you have the more fat gets burnt even when you aren't exercising!
    Keep at it because everyone can lose weight when you know how!
