Choose and buy card stock. If you have a way of cutting the cards at home, you can choose regular card stock that you like. If you don't have a way of cutting the cards, then there are several good business card-specific stock choices available.

Download or purchase design software. Many of the card stock makers such as Avery provide free software to use for designing business cards. Check the website of the company that produced the card stock you are using for design software.

Design the cards. Place the business name, address and phone number on the card. You may also want to include your web address and email address on the card also.

If you would like to include some clip art on your card make sure that it is something that is related to your business. Check the resources section for a place you can get free clip art.

After you have designed your card, make sure to print a test run to see what the card will look like. This is the time to make any needed adjustments.

When you are satisfied with the look of the card, print out the number that you want. One advantage to doing the cards yourself is you do not need to carry a lot of cards at a time. You can save your file and print them as needed.
