As hard drives increase in size, it is becoming more important to keep your hard drive optimized. Defragmenting your hard drive regularly keeps your hard drive performance at its peak level. In Windows 7, you have the ability to schedule your Disk Defragmenter on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis. After you set it, you can forget it and let the scheduler keep your disk performance optimized. Scheduling your computer to defragment your hard drive takes only a few minutes to configure.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click the "Start" button and type "disk" in the Instant Search field. Disk Defragmenter appears for you to select. Alternatively, you can click "Start," choose "All Programs" and then select "Accessories." Then click "System Tools" and select ""Disk Defragmenter."

  2. Step 2

Click "Configure Schedule" to set it and forget it.

  3. Step 3

Select the check-box "Run on a Schedule."

  4. Step 4

Select Daily, Weekly or Monthly as the frequency. If you choose weekly, select the day of the week you want the Disk Defragmenter to run. If you choose monthly, select the date you want Disk Defragmenter to run.

  5. Step 5

Select the time you want Disk Defragmenter to run.
