How to Stop a Squeaking Box Spring

Squeaking box springs on a bed mattress can be the punch line of a bad joke, but it's no laughing matter when your bed makes odd noises whenever you sit on it or turn in your sleep. A squeaking box spring can keep light sleepers awake at night. At best, the squeaky sounds are merely annoying. There are steps you can take to silence your bed springs so you can get a good night's sleep.

Things You'll Need

• WD-40 or other silicon-based lubricant

Instructions

1. Remove the padded top mattress to reveal the box springs. Set the padded mattress aside.

2. Turn the box spring mattress 180 degrees so the head of the mattress points at the foot of the bed. If the squeaking does not stop, proceed to Step 3.

3. Lift the box spring lengthwise to one side and remove the cover from beneath the box spring.

4. Spray a silicon-based lubricant such as WD-40 onto each spring in the mattress. Lubricate the top and bottom of each coiled spring at the joints where it attaches to the frame, then replace the box spring in the bed frame.
