How to Care for Faux Mink Coats

Faux mink fur has historically been decried as cheap imitation, but with advances in manufacturing technologies and a deeper appreciation of the environment, faux mink fur now provides the consumer with a fashionable and accepted alternative to real furs. While faux mink fur may provide an economical advantage over real mink fur, a quality faux fur coat still carries a hefty price tag. Instructions

    • 1

Spot wash your coat by dabbing at the stain, if it is still wet. Pour a small amount of detergent on it and rinse clean.

    • 2

Wash your coat in cold water on the delicate cycle with a minimum amount of detergent. Allow the coat to air dry. Putting it in the dryer, even on low heat, will damage your faux mink fur.

    • 3

Add 1/4 cup vinegar if the coat has accumulated alkaline dust. Alkaline dust feels slightly greasy to the touch and looks like a white powder. It is especially common in areas with high levels of air pollution or rural areas where crop dusting takes place.

    • 4

Brush the coat lightly with a soft brush. Move the brush in the natural direction of the fur.

    • 5

Stay away from heaters or open flames while you are wearing your faux fur. Heat will melt the fibers of your coat.

    • 6

Store your coat out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.

Tips & Warnings

  • Follow the care directions on your coat for best results.
