How to Become a LVN in a Short Period
An LVN is a licensed vocational nurse. Licensed vocational nurses are also known as LPNs or licensed practical nurses. An LVN is a medical professional who assists with patient care duties and usually works under the supervision of a registered nurse. In order to become an LVN you must complete at least nine months of training at a community college or school of nursing. It is possible to become an LVN within a short period of time but you must be able to focus intensely on coursework in order to make this goal a reality.

1
Investigate potential nursing programs. You cannot practice nursing unless you have graduated from a school of nursing or have completed community college class work in the field. Make sure the program you have chosen to attend is accredited. Ask for testimonials from successful graduates and paperwork indicating compliance with all state licensing rules and regulations. A good LVN program should have a list of current classes available as well as the names of professors and class times.
After finding a program you want to join, make sure your application materials are complete and submit your application well before the deadline.

2
Get organized. Before you begin your coursework, set up a study corner in your house. A separate home office is ideal. If you don't have one, mark off a specific area dedicated to studying. The area should contain a desk and comfortable desk chair, a place where you can store your paperwork and an area for books. Try to make sure your study area is quiet and free from distractions.

Arrange finances in advance. Many colleges and nursing schools offer financial aid to qualified students. Work with the financial aid office to make sure that you have secured adequate funding so you can attend school at least nine months to a year if necessary. As a higher education student, you may qualify for state or federal loans or grants. The school's financial aid office will be able to help you with the process and advise you how best to proceed. Making sure that you have no worries about financial matters is an excellent way to help you focus attention on coursework.

4
Attend full time. This is the best way to fully focus your attention on your nursing courses. Full-time attendance means attending classes at least five to six hours a day. You can also expect roughly an hour of homework each day for each class as well and an hour to prepare yourself for class materials each day. Full-time attendance gives you the chance to master all important and vital information in the shortest amount of time.

5
Practice all procedures that you are taught. As part of your LVN training you will be actively involved in patient care. Pay close attention to all instructions about specialized techniques such as lifting patients and helping them learn about good eating and exercise habits. You will be tested on your mastery of nursing subjects after you graduate from nursing school. All LVNs must take a state licensing exam called the NCLEX-PN or National Council Licensure Exam-Practical Nursing. The best way to enter the workforce quickly is to master new material and pass the NCLEX-PN on your first try.
