How to Assemble CD Cases From Home
With the increasing number of people who make custom music CDs and bands that record and distribute their own CDs, putting together a CD package at home is an important step to making your CDs look store bought. A CD case usually consists of a front and back cover for the case, as well as a label for the disc itself. With specialized software designed for this task, you can put together custom CD cases at home that will make your CDs as professional as anything purchased from a store.

1
Design your CD case package. You don't have to be an artist and draw everything out. Just decide on the elements you want to include. Consider making a single folder where you will keep any special graphics you want to add to the CD cover.

2
Choose a CD label software. If you have audio software already, check to see if it as a CD label maker with it. Roxio comes with a feature that allows you to make the inserts for your CD cases. Disketch is a good choice for CD label software that doesn't cost anything (see Resources). It installs quickly, and it's easy to use.

Open your software. In Disketch, you can choose the template you want to work with. Disketch allows you to make front and back inserts for your CDs as well as labels for the disc itself. Add text to your CD or insert labels by clicking the "Add Text" button on the left side of the interface. This will place an input area on the disc or insert the template you're using. All you have to do is type your words and apply a text style.

4
Add an image to your CD disc label or inserts by clicking the "Add Images" command to the left of the interface and browsing to the folder where your image is located. Drag the image to your template and size it to fit. You can use any combination of text and images for your CD labels and your front and back inserts.

5
Purchase CD label package kits at any office supply store. You will also need to purchase CD jewel cases. The CD label package kit comes with paper to match the templates for your inserts and CD labels. The label paper peels off so you can place the labels on your discs. Open your label software, pull up the project you want to print and insert the proper paper from the label kit. Print as many copies of the project as you need. When printing is complete, peel off the CD labels and put them on your CDs, then place the front and back inserts into your empty CD cases. Place CDs in the case, and you have your own home-produced CD packages.
