1
Stand with your feet spaced apart slightly. Bend your head forward to let your hair hang upside-down.
-
2
Brush your hair with long, deep strokes from the nape of your neck down to the tips of your hair. Repeat this step several times to assure your hair is tangle-free.
-
-
3
Run the fine-tooth comb through your hair, keeping it in the upside-down position to work out any small knots.
-
4
Gather your hair into a tight ponytail at the very top part of your head and secure it into place with an elastic hair tie.
-
5
Use the fine-tooth comb to carefully detangle and straighten the ponytail.
-
6
Determine how much hair you wish to cut off, and then tie it off at that point with the second elastic hair tie.
-
7
Cut from your tips to the hair tie in a straight, horizontal cut. Cutting 3 inches or more will create the layered look.
-
8
Pull the hair ties from your hair, and style your new haircut.
