How to Restore Backup Files in Gateway

Restoring backup files on a Gateway can be done depending on the version of the Windows operating system that has been installed. Gateway computer can have Windows XP and Windows Vista installed which have different methods that are used to restore backup files. You can access the Backup option in Windows Vista from the Backup and Restore Center and from the System Program Group in Windows XP Professional.

Instructions

  1. Windows Vista

      Navigate to the Control Panel in Windows Vista by clicking on the "Start" menu and then clicking "Control Panel".

      Click the "Restore Files" option from the Back up your computer window. You should see a dialog box appear for User Account Control.

      Click "Continue" and then select the option you require from the "What do you want to restore?" window.

      Click "Next" and then select the files and folders to restore from the "Select the files and folders to restore" window. You also have the option to browse or search for files and folders that are on your system.

      Click "Next" once you have selected the files and folders to restore. You will then need to select the location for the restored files from the "Where do you want to save the restored files?" window.

      Click "Start restore" to restore the file you have selected, When the files have been restored click Finish from the "Successfully restored files" dialog box.

    Windows XP

      Navigate to the Backup Utility that is included with Windows XP Professional.

      Click on the Start menu, click "All Programs", point to "Accessories" and then go to "System Tools".

      Click on Backup to start the utility. The Backup or Restore Wizard will appear on the screen.

      Click the "Next" button to continue the backup and restore process.

Tips & Warnings

  • Options may vary slightly depending on how your system is configured, such as using classic mode options.

  • If you have not created any backup files in Windows XP Professional there will no backup files to restore.
