The iPhone has a unique visual voicemail feature that conveniently displays the name and phone number of callers in the order that voicemails are received. This allows users to select which voicemails they want to listen to without having to listen to all voicemails that are stored in the phone. Visual voicemail is an extremely popular iPhone feature and is very simple to use.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Open your iPhone's "Phone" feature by clicking on its icon at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Voicemail" icon at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. This will bring up a list of all of your visual voicemail that is stored on your phone. If the voicemail is from a caller who is stored in your phone's contact list, the caller's name will be displayed. If the call is from a caller who is not in your contact list, the caller's phone number will be displayed.

  3. Step 3

Click on a caller's name or phone number. This will highlight the voicemail in blue.

  4. Step 4

Click on "Speaker" at the top right-hand corner of the screen if you want the voicemail to play aloud from your iPhone's speakers. Otherwise, the voicemail will be played internally and you will have to hold your phone to your ear to hear it.

  5. Step 5

Click on the blue triangle to the left of the name or number to play the voicemail. A timer is displayed at the bottom of the screen that shows you the length of the voicemail and how far along you are while listening. To pause the voicemail, click on the "Pause" button to the left of the name or number.

  6. Step 6

Repeat this process to listen to other voicemails.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your iPhone will store your voicemails indefinitely until you run out of space or until your phone service provider deletes it. Check with your phone carrier to determine how long voicemails are saved. Clicking on the blue arrow to the right of a name or number in the voicemail list takes you to an information page that allows you to easily call the contact back, send a text message, or save the contact to your phone's contact list.
