How to Edit the Address Bar in Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer automatically saves any URL you enter into the address bar to the browser's search history. Saved URLs typically appear in a dropdown list that appears when users type in web addresses. At some point, you may wish to edit the address bar search history on your Windows machine for privacy or security reasons. When doing so, you have the option of deleting individual search items from the address bar or the entire search history.

Close any Internet Explorer windows currently open on your Windows computer.

Click on the "Start" button at the bottom left corner of the screen. Select the "Run" option from the pull-down menu.

Type "RegEdit" into the text field. Click "OK" or press "Enter."

Identify the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER," "Software," "Microsoft," "Internet Explorer" and "Typed URLs" folders. Click on the plus sign (+) next to each folder. A list of URLs numbered in sequential order will appear in the right column.

Select a URL you wish to delete. Right click in the "Name" column and press "Delete" to erase the URL from the search history.

Launch Internet Explorer. Begin typing one of the deleted URLs into the address bar. If you've made a successful deletion, the URL will not appear in the search history list.

Launch Internet Explorer.

Click "Tools" at the top of the Internet Explorer window, and select "Internet Options" from the pull-down menu. Alternatively, click the "Start" button at the bottom left corner of the screen, then click "Control Panel" and select "Internet Options" from the menu that appears.

Click on the "General" tab.

Click on "Clear History." Doing so will delete all previously visited websites from the address bar history.
